Google Map Editor Features

  1. Can I import trails or lines from Excel file to the GMap Editor
    The GMap Editor V2 doesn't support importing polylines. You have to draw the trails or lines (polylines) in GMap Editor V2 manually. For the detailed steps, you can refer to the video tutorial.

  2. Is it possible to create an editable map with zip codes?
    In the GMap Editor V2, you can import locations with zip codes.

  3. Can I pinpoint locations with pins in different colors and sizes?
    Yes, you can edit the pin’s color and size, and you can import customized icon image as well.

  4. Can I shade regions in different colors as I want (e.g. United States)
    You can shade the regions in different colors as you want by adding Regional Geographic Polygons, and then edit the region’s colors in the pop-up dialog.

  5. Is Kuwait map, with it’s governorates and neighborhoods, available in GMap Editor V2?
    Yes , there are overlays for governorates in GMap Editor V2, and you can refer to the sample map. A customized project is needed if you need the neighborhoods of Kuwait. Please contact us with your shapefiles for the details.

  6. Can I import locations by grouping them into different categories?
    You can import the locations that has already been assigned to different categories from data files (e.g. Excel files / csv files).

  7. How to create clickable regions for different tourism regions
    iMapBuilder Obline - GMap Editor V2 supports creating a map with clickable regions. You can edit mouseover text, colors and insert links to the editable regions.

  8. How can I make each country on the map as a custom region, and with a speech bubble of information pop up on each region?
    You can create Regional Geographic Polygons with pop-up box in the GMap Editor V2.

  9. Can I change the colour scheme and the legend of the custom Google Map?
    You can change the colour scheme by editing the settings in the Map Settings panel:
    1. Click the Map Settings icon in the horizontal toolbar
    2. Select the Styled Map tab in the popup panel
    3. Change the colour settings
    4. Save the map and see the updated changes in the preview map
    You can add legend in the map and change the color of the legend icons. For the details, please refer to here.

  10. Can the map viewers search location in the custom Google Map
    Yes, in the published map, there is a search box on the top left corner, and map users can search locations by entering addresses / zip codes in the box.

  11. How can I export the GMap to image Jpeg file?
    You can use screen capture function of your computer to save the map into a Jpeg file.

    For Window PC, simply press "PrintScreen" to copy the image, and then paste the image into any photo editor to save it as jpeg.

    The shortcut of screen capture of Mac is:

    Command+Shift+4” and dragging to select the area you want to capture. The image will then be captured directly in the desktop.

    Or

    Command+Shift+3” can capture the whole screen.

  12. Would I be able to import an excel file, addresses and longitude/latitude to map points?
    Yes. Our GMap Editor supports bulk import of address.

    Please click bulk import button at the left hand side. Then click "Switch to Bulk Add Mode >>". There will be a text area for you to import addresses, so you can copy and paste the addresses from the excel file to this text area. Please make sure that one single line shows one address only.

  13. How to import content of "My Place" from Google Maps?
    You can save your "My Place" content as a KML file, and import the file into the Google Map Editor. Please note that the KML file is read-only, so make sure that all your edits have done on Google Maps before exporting.

  14. How to integrate the map with Microsoft Word or PowerPoint?
    We recommend publishing the map separately as a web page, and uses hyperlinks to open the link from the PowerPoint slide or Word document. 

    There are third party add-ins for PowerPoint if you want to embed the whole map web page into a slide. You may refer to this guide for details.

  15. How to add formatting and link to mouse over descriptions?
    Here are some examples to set the text style in HTML.

    Setting font size:
    <font size="20">Text</font>

    Setting bold text:
    <b>Bold Text</b>

    Setting underline text:
    <u>Your content</u>

    Creating hyperlinks:

  16. How to plot a route using data imported from Excel?
    Your Excel file should include two data columns to show the original and destination coordinates. Here is a sample format:
    Origination Destination

  17. Is there any way to show the state/province names on a map?
    You can add the province names as labels. Please follow this user guide to add labels on your map.

  18. How to publish an interactive map without mouse over effect?
    You can use our geographical overlays for easy adding of country borders on the map.

    You may also follow these steps if the borders are not available for your country.
    • Remove mouseover effect from ALL countries
      - In Map Properties [ Land Highlight Effect > Highlight Effect ] set to "None".
      - In Regions Settings, Change the mouseover color(on right side) same as default color.
      (check the selection "Apply as Mouse Over Color for all Land" before confirm color)
    • Remove the tooltips name for those countries that you do not need it.
      - In Regions Settings, delete the name in the land textbox (left textbox).
    • Set up the color the countries that you want
      - In Regions Settings, Change the mouseover color (on right side) to color you prefer
      - In Regions Settings, Set the name for the countries (left textbox)
    To remove the country name, you can do this in [Regions Settings]

    Please opens up the Regions Settings panel, and then find the country name in Grey. Simply remove the name and it will be blank and won't be display on mouseover.

  19. How to add other cities on the map?
    You can select the map templates with latitude and longitude supported. Then you can import/export latitude or longitude data into the map. If you are not sure the file format, you can download a sample in the import panel.

  20. How to setup a map allowing users to pin and share locations?
    What you need is a map with 'crowdsourced' capability. A mapping tool with a 'crowdsourced' map feature allows visitors (not just the map creator) to add / share points onto an existing map (can be Google map, Bing map, or any map created), and then the map owner can show/hide these crowdsourced locations.

  21. I want to draw continuous lines to indicate the routes, can your map do this?
    Yes. Our GMap Editor supports drawing continuous lines in the current version.

    You may select the pencil icondraw route tool at the left hand side, and click to start drawing, right click to end the lines.

  22. I'm having trouble adding lines, I have a single click Mac mouse.
    To Right-Click on Mac, Press and hold down the "CTRL" key and
    then click the mouse or touchpad button
    If using Magic Mouse, it has secondary click. Please check this:
