Fine-tuning for crowdsourcing maps

Postby JanGeorgPlavec » 2012-06-21 15:59:46

Hi there,

I did the trial and I really like the crowdsourcing function. Basically, I would need three additional functionalities on top of what the trial can offer:

* use German language in ALL fields, e.g. visitors of my site shall not see "add location" but "neuen Ort hinzufügen" or something like that.
* fix the area where people can enter markers themselves. Right now, if I am using the "pinpoint location on the map" option, the marker is always set somewhere in the Mediterranean. Though I would prefer to have that in a pre-defined geographic area.
* no limits on the number of markers that can be set (how large can the database become once I pay for it?), no link to imapbuilder.com

I'd be happy to get your reply and of course I'd be even happier if you could present solutions to the poins outlined above ...

Thanks a lot,
regs from Germany

We can change all of the fields to be editable, so that you can simply use your own language for those text labels. This is currently in our to-do list.

Thanks for your suggestion and we can do with a pre-defined region as the starting point. This is also in our roadmap.

The number of markers depend on the Plan you have subscribed to.

Hey all, thanks a lot for your quick reply. As for your plans on points 1 and 2, can you already tell when this is going to be accomplished? 'cause we'd need these functionalities pretty fast.

Impressive! Thanks a lot guys, that makes the crowdsourcing map a lot more customized for all those who are not native English speakers.

Two more points, though:
* right now, I'm only able to re-access the "crowdsourced" menu in the online editor one single time - i.e. I create a new map, enter preferences and text under the "crowdsourced" button and close that menu, but after this I cannot access it anymore. That bug hasn't been there before, maybe it has to do with the extra customization feature?
* one more language issue: the rest of the whole crowdsourcing thing (i.e. the items on the login page, the names of the buttons in the menu on top of the published crowdsourcing map and the buttons on the actual window where the user can enter location and comment) is still in English. Can you include all of these into the language customization option? If it helps, I could provide the German wording for all of these buttons.

Thanks for helping me with that,
regs

We believe that a recent update fixed this issue. Could you try again and let us know?

Our developers suggested that these are common text for the general system and they are not available for additional language support.

For the language issues: I can really tell you that translating at least the login buttons for users who want to add markers would be a real improvement for non-native English speakers and it would of course make the map much more customizeable to the local web environment. It will always cause some sort of disorientation if the rest of the webpage is in German but this menu appears in English language so if you could re-think at least that bit of it, it would make your maps much more attractive.

As for the crowdsourcing menu: in my version (still the trial), it doesn't work yet. Neither with the old map nor with a new one I created ... Maybe you could check that again!?

We can consider making the UI text a bit more customizable, and they are on our drawing board right now. We would let you know once they are available to fill in.

Our developers are interested to know the steps you work with the crowdsourcing module and how it does not work. We can try to reproduce your steps and see if there are outstanding bugs to fix. Thanks for your help. :D

Hey all,

have you changed anything about the crowdsourcing function? I just tried it and it didn't work out any more ... neither language customization showed any results in the published map nor was it possible to set any markers ...

Thanks a lot for fixing that!
