Help Building Searchable Points with Excel Database

Postby jcmcdonnal » 2012-05-12 12:38:37

Appreciate Any Help,
I'm more of a graphics guy; and so far I really like Imapbuilder. I'm creating a custom map with the location of our equipment. I'm using points that when you roll over with a mouse all the infomation for that equipment is displayed. Now, we have this infomation in an exsisting Excel database. How can I build the points from a database in order to use the browser 'ctrl+f' search function? I cannot use ImapGoogle because the majority of the time we do not have access to the internet.
Any help would really be appreciated.

Thank you for your message.

If you need to import addresses and automatically perform geocoding conversions, then plot the points on a map accordingly, then you would have to use the custom Google map builder to import addresses from an Excel file, as geocoding must be performed online with Internet connections.

Alternatively, if you can convert the location information in your Excel file into longitude / latitude values first, then it is possible to use the standalone version of iMapBuilder for Windows to import these points into a longitude/latitude enabled map, without any Internet connection.

Please refer details at:

Hope this helps.

Locations is not an issue. The map I've created makes it very easy to navigate to the equipment. But, finding the specific infomation on the equipment: GP #, power out put, make and model; I have 700 pieces of equipment and would like someome to be able to simply type in a GP# or model or power outpout and see it on the map. I can definity do this in Google maps, but, again, alot of our techs do not have internet and then there's a security issue too. If I could do the Google Map search function with IMapbuilder I would be in heaven.
